France bans extremely thin models. I tend to set the bar very high for banning things but am torn here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-39821036 …

A requirement that models have a healthy body-weight does seem reasonable. Jobs shldn't require ppl to be unhealthy. Must work both ways.

But this is the models' health I'm thinking of.Not 'standards of beauty'. Society is not going to see v thin models & starve itself to death

As western models have got thinner, western society has got fatter. I think it's safe to say we've resisted brainwashing quite well. Too well

I've said I don't think it can extend to sports. That is the individual's choice. Jobs shldn't require unhealthy body weights tho.

It's not the individual saying what they should weigh, no. Having to comply with the industry & some health & safety rules are reasonable.

I can see a similar justification for 'You must be a weight that keeps your organs functioning properly when modelling clothes.'

To even get a job as a model if they wanted to. Also, who would write the standards as to what would constitute a "healthy" bodyweight.

Hmm, if that's the case, and it's not a blanket ban on models of a certain weight based on BMI or something it might be okay.

Seems rather arbitrary/illiberal. If being a bad role model is the issue wouldn't you also have to ban obese people on the same grounds?

It wasn't the issue I raised. Health was. But yes, I did include requiring people to be dangerously overweight as well as underweight.

So now they'll only use the "naturally" thin models. Are #BMI equality quotas req'd? Or will this move encourage responsible fashion?

it's not requirement. Unhealthy models might just outperform healthier ones. That doesn't mean they should be banned.
