France bans extremely thin models. I tend to set the bar very high for banning things but am torn here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-39821036 …

A requirement that models have a healthy body-weight does seem reasonable. Jobs shldn't require ppl to be unhealthy. Must work both ways.

But this is the models' health I'm thinking of.Not 'standards of beauty'. Society is not going to see v thin models & starve itself to death

As western models have got thinner, western society has got fatter. I think it's safe to say we've resisted brainwashing quite well. Too well

I've said I don't think it can extend to sports. That is the individual's choice. Jobs shldn't require unhealthy body weights tho.

It's not the individual saying what they should weigh, no. Having to comply with the industry & some health & safety rules are reasonable.

To answer: In US: High School Wrestling teams go by weight class. Common to have someone decrease weight to get into a lower class.

No problem with individuals choosing to be a certain weight & not talking abt sports where risking health is inevitable.

Talking about companies & a big industry requiring models to be of a size that endangers their organs just to wear clothes.

Though it'd be more sincere if the same rules applied to "plus-sized" models.

Eh........ well it's not a blanket ban, more of a requisite of medical certificate. An accidental "progressive" moment of lucidity imho.
