Parents evening every year I'm told the child is hardworking & polite but gets in trouble for forgetfulness & absent-mindedness.

Then they look at me to support them on this & I do! In principle! But in practice, I don't think she can help it &I'd be an utter hypocrite

And they know it. So embarrassing getting a call halfway home from school dropoff, 'Mrs Pluckrose, you seem to have forgotten your dog.'

More embarrassing was running up & down high street yelling 'Prince! Have u seen a black Labrador? I only left him outside for a minute!'

Before remembering that actually I'd left him at home.

I have a (completely unsourced) hypothesis abt the kind of scattiness Lucy & I have and a connection to obsessiveness in one area.

We're both extremely organised & attentive to specific things that interest us & I think they use up all our organisational power!

I like to say "you should remember all the stuff I do right" - though I usually forget names and people.
