Even tho that renders 'respect' meaningless. If you respect the claim that the world is 4.5 billion yrs old & 6,000 what is that worth?
I'm sure I'd match these findings. I'd admit to being absolutely certain of very little but in practice I'd still want things to make sense.
So often ppl go from 'We can't know anything for sure' to 'Any claim is equally likely.' No.
I do like to think of myself as open-minded but, to me, this does not mean 'stuff any old shit in there & don't worry if it doesn't add up.'
Open-minded, to me, means being open to changing your mind when given reason to do so, not holding contradictory beliefs at same time.
I'm not sure who said it first but I love the phrase, "Don't be so open-minded, your brains fall out."
