No, they don't have any obligation. They can protect students from the most distressing ideas if they want. The rest of us can address them

It'd be ideal if students were given the opportunity to learn to counter the worst ideas in society & I'd pick that kind for my daughter.

Of course, students shouldn't be forced to attend. They can avoid being exposed to upsetting ideas but don't make that choice for them.
