That's not how freedom works. Ppl don't have to prove that what they want to do has value in order to be allowed to do it.

Is the aim of universities to educate students on how to belong to certain communities? I don't think it is. Blatant collectivism.

And the argument that whilst bigoted ideas don't hurt much on campus, they do in the wider world so ban them on campus is nuts.

Also, they have access to all ideas online? Surely, they intend their students to be significant players in the world of ideas & politics?

Being able to fight ideas rather than dissolve in a puddle or start shrieking & setting fire to things would be an advantage.
