Ha! Suspected of being depressed. "Do you have trouble getting interested in or enthusiastic about anything?" Nope, none at all.

Trying to fix my chronic insomnia. So often it feels like doctors want to give you a diagnosis & then tell you what symptoms to have

A neurologist once insisted I was depressed & needed anti-depressants. Got very cross when I declined.

Told him, 'Honestly, it's fine. If I have depression, it's a kind that doesn't stop me thoroughly enjoying life so I'm happy to keep it.'

Prob shldn't have added 'I'll also take the diabetes which doesn't affect my blood sugar & the asthma which doesn't affect my breathing.'

But I was cross too. Shortly after that, I suffered paralysis down my right side & he conceded that my symptoms might not be psychological.

This led to the cyst in my brain being found. I'm pretty much fine now. This happens a lot to ppl who've ever had a mental health diagnosis.

I had OCD but learnt how to beat it 15 years ago & now put the 'not being able to let things go' aspect to good use.

Mostly. You know what I mean. But this leaves me somewhat conflicted about mental health activism. There's a need for it and yet...

I'm not sure the current attitude is always helpful. I don't think its ever helpful to take on a pathology as an identity & that happens.

There must be a way to encourage resilience &coping w/out stigmatising or neglecting ppl who, with the best will in the world, simply aren't

There is. Some ppl just need some coaching. Some help finding the right way to manage their lives. I don't like the 'pill' culture at all.

I get depressed very easily. It's not a problem any more. I know the signs and I know what to do. Still perfecting. But I manage.

And I believe that finding good ways to deal are the best methods for a nice future. Life's messy. We each find a way to make it work.

Even if we need medication (and some do), that still is not enough. They don't work as a coping mechanism.
