First very rough draft of next essay done. Hypocrisy & why we're so alert to it right now. Now I have the weekend to polish.

I'm an incredibly slow writer. I feel the need to try & read everything ever written on a topic & then get bogged down in it all.

Also, I'm incredibly verbose. Concision is not a skill I have. I will try setting myself deadlines & word-limits & gradually decreasing them

I've been playing with an idea of writing something about why I think we should be less hard on people for hypocrisy but probably never will

Ah. Very different. I'm looking at why we are and also arguing that much accusation of hypocrisy on the left gets the problem wrong.

I think overly stigmatizing hypocrisy may be harmful. Changing beliefs often necessitates hypocrisy bc changing behavior takes an extra step

I agree. Much better to say 'How do you reconcile that with your earlier ideas or have your thoughts changed?' pleasantly if warranted.

Yep, but for some reason (I have a few ideas on why and it sounds like you do too), perceived hypocrisy makes us hate people intuitively.

Yes. I'm citing evo psychs who say its related to early human group survival. Signalling virtue falsely. This supports it. v
