Islam does exist, so a moot point. You're basically saying you can be a Muslim no matter what you believe, making 'Muslim' utter pointless
Please try to remain civil.. Of course non-Muslims can have theological/philosophical/semantic arguments abt the definition of Islam.
-
-
This is just a different argument to ethical considerations of whether Muslims can live & promote a form of it which supports liberal values
-
That's like saying footballers should stop playing football but we'll still call them footballers. Still amazed as to how you can't grasp it
-
I've grasped that there is a semantic argument to be made. I'm suggesting its less important than the reality of versions of Islam.
-
If you have no opinion on the ethical argument of liberal forms of Islam but are speaking only about theological definitions, fine.
-
I had the impression that you were telling Maajid that his liberal version cld not exist in reality rather than in theological definition.
-
But, if you were actually making a theological argument that only true version of Islam exists & can't be revised by today's Muslims, OK.
-
No point arguing with people who believe in one true version of anything that was man-made in the first place.
-
Of course there is. All religions are man-made and have real-world consequences. To say these shouldnt be addressed is shameful on your part

But you just called them academic. This is you dismissing their validity. Why not just admit you are wrong?
-
No, it isn't. I am an academic. I do study religion. I do look at theological arguments for what constitutes a religion.
-
Then why are you so clearly and demonstrably wrong about everything you've said on this topic? I'm not impressed by your claimed credentials
-
You're clearly not going to make an argument or address mine so I'll leave you shouting that you are right & I am stupid.
-
You mean the straw man argument you made up about my position? Why would I make an argument for a position I don't hold?
