If I've already shared this @HPluckrose essay on postmodernism, PC left & post-truth right, it's worth sharing againhttps://areomagazine.com/2017/03/27/how-french-intellectuals-ruined-the-west-postmodernism-and-its-impact-explained/ …

I think the problem is the over reliance by Americans on French 20th c. philosophers, even where the French wouldn't take them seriously.

But Foucault is invaluable when it comes to his analysis of the surveillance state in Discipline and Punish, a prophet of what was to come.

I think some of the backlash is very unfair, such as Sokal and Bricmont's uncharitable and misleading characterization of Irigaray.

Did they? I noticed they misread Lacan's depiction of 'below the bar' as an equation that didn't work when it was never an equation

From what I can tell, the "sexed equation" that they quote never appears in the original text, French or English. Unless earlier edition?

Really? She didn't speak of the speed of light being masculine? I admit I can't recall tho I've used her a lot in my work.

Would need to see the original books to make any strong claims, of course.

I have them all, I think. I'll look into it. I must admit, it does sound very like something she would say!
