The problem with writing about postmodernism is that then people want to discuss the fine points of postmodern theory with you.

In its defence, though, to most people in most situations, this will be indistinguishable from "relative truth".
-
@BaileyNagy But that's the fallacy he's addressing. Ppl thinking that disagreement = no one truth rather than some people being wrong. -
I'm happy to call the (possibly) wrong truth "subjective (or relative) truth" since it's true to the person concerned. This may be unhelpful!
-
I think that's a problem. Holding as true something that is false is being wrong. We shld strive to be the least wrong we can.
-
Wittgenstein understood that. His whole philosophy has no positive elements. It's all about error correction.

I get a bit stuck on words like knowledge that have at least three meanings: personal kn, human kn, science...
-
Things that are known to be true because of evidence showing it to be so.
-
That definition includes things that aren't true. (The evidence could be in error.) Does that matter?
-
People can be mistaken about knowing things, yes, but that wld be a barrier to knowledge. The truth wld remain true.
-
I finally read your article and it's vg. Pomo was +ve movement in arts and philosophy but blatantly illogical and disruptive in sciences.
-
Thanks. Arts, yes. Some interesting philosophical ideas but philosophy too shld aim at getting closer to truth so relativity undermines that
-
I wind certain people up by saying that science is finding stuff out and philosophy is making stuff up.
-
Inductive reasoning can also establish truth but so much philosophy doesn't aim to do that
