Old school feminism is needed. A lot of these new ones are just loonies

Is there any reason to think slimey jokes about women's legs are related to beating your partner?
-
Sure. Not my field - but I am pretty certain someone would have done studies on the sexist attitudes of convicted wife beaters.
-
Possibly. But this still would not tell us if ppl who find leg jokes amusing are more likely to be violent to women.
-
Analogy: Racism- would making casually racist jokes lead to killing black people or Jews- No. Some racism is "mostly harmless"
-
Not all racism is deadly - but its petty forms/ expressions arise from the same kinds of assumptions and attitudes.
-
I don't see how that works. 1) Regarding women as sexually attractive & saying so is not akin to racism anyway.
-
2) Even when attraction is expressed when not appropriate -eg shld be focusing on woman's ideas -where's the connection w violence
-
I don't see a connection between expressing attraction and violence either. Cant see where you are getting this from.????

I don't believe I was conflating things - but attitudes and worldviews have many different expressions.
-
Well, by 'conflating' I meant arguing that talking abt women's legs to be minor symptom of a big problem that includes DV.
-
I would find it very difficult to believe there was no relation or connection- yes. People are very complex things.

.
@mricho61 I think so too. I even think men could appreciate bad jokes abt powerful women's legs w/out beating their wives & girlfriends. -
