But 'that's an appeal to emotion' is only a disqualifier if the person claims it to be anything else - eg a reasoned argument.

This is a problem among sceptics sometimes now. Not everything is a debate to be won on reason and evidence. Check that it is first.

Emotional needs are irrelevant when considering whether a god exists, very relevant when considering provision of care for elderly people.
