She's not wearing it because she thinks women have a specific duty to be 'modest.' That idea I object to.
of course, we can criticise and should say what we feel but people's reasons for wearing them are nuanced
And that's what I think should be discussed. Wear it coz pretty, practical, convenient? No problem.
or even because you want to show people you're happily moslem. Thus may well make you feel good
yes, I agree with the sentiment but in liberal society we have to live with things we don't like.
But we don't have to pretend to like them. This is where ppl get confused. 1/2
They think that if something is a choice & we are tolerant people, we shld accept it is a good or neutral choice.
And conversely, that if you say you hate an idea or practice, this means you want to ban ppl from doing it. No.
Or that you're going to approach hijabis minding their own business & tell them your views on the matter. Nope.
