Oh dear. I am not cut out to be a talking-to-people researcher. Got my first rude response & am struggling not to respond. Let it go, Helen.

I think its a different sort of challenge. With the first group, they're like this with everyone & my goal is to win some trust & reduce it
-
With the second, its intentional & personal coz they want to show they're better than me & my goal becomes testing this claim.
-
Because when ppl actually are better than me at whatever we're doing (and obv many are) they don't tend to feel the need to be arseholes.
-
Those who do feel a need to be condescending & rude are usually those who feel threatened & fear they might be inferior.
-
So maybe, I should also feel some sympathy for them. But I don't. Fuck off. Speak to me civilly like a decent human being.

Because you know there is a reason for the first one, and sympathy kicks in.

we are all a product of our biology and conditioning. They can't help it, and you can't help how you respond (in/externally)!

pretty much everyone has issues, but it's easier to be 'understanding' with those whose issues are more obvious.

It's perfectly fine to find some bits of stupidity humorous and have other bits get right up your nose. Very human.
