Treason laws relate to the principle of loyalty. Don't need to consult them when considering whether I should betray a friend's trust.

In the same way, we don't need to refer to the 1A to consider whether our own response to speech is liberal (in sense of valuing freedoms.)

well, in some cases what is liberal or not is a matter of opinion.
