I'm guilty of raising a 'colour-blind' child. I remember being very pleased about this when she was about 6. Someone knocked on the door. 1
I thought so too but kids changed my mind abt this. Also texts from the Mediterranean before 17th century.

Very little mention of skin colour in descriptions of people despite having all shades. Bible a very good example.

Wasn't really long distance. Trade was booming between continents.

Black ppl in Europe. White ppl in Africa. Brown ppl everywhere. Jews of all shades assisting Xtian & Muslims with finance.

I have to confess I remain somewhat doubtful as to this multi hued (if I may say so) culture. But I can't support these doubts

But not being able to visually differentiate between, say, black and white/pinkish seems like more of a loss than anything else

Course ppl can differentiate. They just don't tend to do so that much. Might have trouble recalling hair colour of someone you met?

But if asked to note it, you could easily do so.
