I think it's important to criticise bad ideas coming from your own 'side' but I'm reluctant to denounce people if this can be avoided.

It also leads to situations where people are judged on their opinions of other people rather than their positions on important issues.

It gets very messy when people start arguing about the ethics of supporting or defending certain people rather than certain ideas.

I esp dislike when ppl are denounced 4 a single remark after a lifetime of great work.

Indeed although shaming of good ppl is a slightly different thing to what I was thinking of.

I am often surprised to find that someone whose thinking I admire thinks well of someone I don't. But this is good.

It makes me look at ppl I'd dismissed with fresh eyes and if I still don't rate them, we just disagree on that one person.
