This is not hard. To harm or hinder scientists is to harm or hinder science. Social justice MUST be part of science advocacy. #ScienceMarch

2/ Fighting social injustice, e.g. through diversity & inclusion efforts, is an essential part of advocating for science. #ScienceMarch

3/ …as essential as fighting science funding cuts, muzzling of scientists, manipulating science, & twisting/ignoring research conclusions.

4/ So it is reasonable to expect @ScienceMarchDC to include this as part of its platform and to address it in planning the #ScienceMarch.

5/ So we have 2 problems here. One is people attacking @ScienceMarchDC for including social justice in its platform &planning. #ScienceMarch

6/ The other is that @ScienceMarchDC has made some serious mistakes in its diversity and inclusion efforts. I believe these can be fixed.

Good. Take note of the fact that not all scientists are intersectionals. Diversity of ideas too, please.

You seem to be suggesting that diversity & inclusion efforts put scientists who are not "intersectionals" (?) 1/

If you want the march to be about diversity of identity in science, that's one thing but then its not about science

The scientists I have seen arguing about this are all for equality & equal opportunity but not intersectionality.

I'm not sure you are understanding the term "intersectionality" correctly. Try google?

Okay, clearly you understand intersectionality (even if you don't agree w/ intersectional feminism). I apologize.

But your use of "intersectionals" in this convo is a red flag, imo, in context of you pushing back against diversity &inclusion.

Absolutely not. My argument is for diversity & inclusion. My problem is with interesectional, identity politics approaches to this

We saw with the march for women that women who are pro-life or gender critical were told they were not welcome by organisers.

I'm critical of both those positions but they're still women with genuine interest in March.WoC more likely to take these positions
