Opposing cultural relativity does not require refusing to acknowledge that cultural norms have a huge impact on people's values.

The reason that I don't share all my parents' beliefs is coz I live in a society which includes variety of ideas & the right to express them
-
If everyone I ever met all thought exactly the same thing, perhaps I cld deviate slightly. An exceptional free-thinker a bit more.
-
But opposing cultural relativity is not about expecting ppl to be exceptional free-thinkers & independently come up with liberal values.
-
Its about getting people to evaluate different value systems on their merits rather than consider 'culture' a justification in itself
-
You can't blame ppl for the cultures they came from. You can if they perpetuate their harmful ideas having been shown the problem.
-
I believe that cultures which give women, LGBTs etc the same rights & freedoms as straight men are better than ones that don't.
-
I can & do justify this belief. If you believe the opposite, you really need to do the same rather than just demand ppl respect your culture

I don't know, I was born and raised in a very insular, intolerant and Christian community. I never accepted their values.
