I do think historians will discuss a crisis of speech in our time. Obsession with what can & can't be said, inability to keep terms stable.
Always an element of this but it surges at certain times & in certain cultures & subcultures.

It interests me. Double & triple-speak spurred by Machiavelli & Elizabeth I. And intellectual crisis around 'signs' after Reformation.
