Always an element of this but it surges at certain times & in certain cultures & subcultures.

It interests me. Double & triple-speak spurred by Machiavelli & Elizabeth I. And intellectual crisis around 'signs' after Reformation.

However, I don't want to live through it. So stop it.

Is it very different from 18th C gentry fussing over proper speech while slavery & genocide happened in front of them?
-
I'm afraid my 18th century American social history is almost non-existent.

gotta disagree. It's gonna be how we drowned in Information but couldn't agree on what's true.

Without definition you can't have discussion. People know this & keep terms unstable (great terminology ty) to control speech.

It's very authoritarian, in Cultural Revolution, people praising Mao the wrong way will still get beaten. It doesn't matter
-
that ppl were trying to PRAISE, it matters that they do it the way that's allowed. Deviating and you find yourself in deep
-
trouble. Even if you are trying to praise the leader, just don't do it your way, not worth the risk (sometimes they like it and
-
your way will become "standard", "allowed", but often, it will not, so risky.)
