These need to be won on the grounds of ideas. For me, consistently liberal ones which include individual freedoms are paramount.

I think those ones will win. Most ppl are not ideological extremists. They tend to want a general fairness & to be left alone.

Or singling out certain groups to demonise. A strong centre which values consistency, equal opportunities & freedom could win the day.

Very easy to say. Harder to work out the details. But a failure to value & aim for these things undermines public confidence in any position
