the only rule that can be justified convincing is "no headwear". For anyone.

If there's a good reason, sure. Health and safety or something.

right. Something objective. Once you make it subjective, can of worms. Only way to be consistent it no headwear or any headwear.

personally, for schools, I'd choose none. We don't need more ways to separate kids, we need less. Why I like the school uniform.

I'd choose freedom as much as possible. Not ban anything unless you really have to.

broadly I agree. But we agree to curtail freedoms all the time if the argument is sound enough. I think this is one such.

I don't. I want anyone who wants to wear a headscarf to do so for any reason, not for it to be limited to religion &/or modesty.

segregation amongst our kids, whether religious whether monetary etc. Sensible school uniform rules applied to all.

OK but you can't decide for other people what is needless segregation. They can wear what they want unless its dangerous.

me alone? No. But I can make the argument & seek consensus. Also, it's kids, not adults. Big difference.

I'll join a conensus which says covering hair for modesty is bad, for fashion, custom, convenience, tidyness is neutral.

won't work. Someone can simply say it's not for modesty. Only the two extremes are realistic here.

No, I don't think so. The world will not end if some kids wear scarves for modesty, some for fashion, most don't wear them.

of course it won't end. I'm simply saying it's preferable. Segregation in schools doesn't tend to produce good social outcomes.

But neither does limiting freedom of religion or expression. Put kids in together, definitely. Don't start banning relig garb.

I can see your argument but its veers into authoritarianism. Even tho kids are essentially being controlled by someone anyway.

if it does, we already have it. If I worked at the council I don't get to turn up to work in my Prince Sexy MF T-shirt.
