One of the few things I can't understand about the British: school uniforms. It's to battle bullying? Something else?

Put everyone on a level playing field, yes.
-
does it work?
-
Probably. Less focus on clothes and shoes and jewellery & who can afford what & who's a bit shabby
-
Hmm...maybe it's my lack of experience with the concept.
It creeps me out a little.

We had 2 change 2 'summer uniform' on 31st April no matter the weather. Once it was snowing! Summer uniform was a short-sleeved
-
blouse, tank top, knee length skirt & ankle socks. They checked 2 make sure we weren't wearing thermal vests or any other warm
-
layers.
-
thats certainly excessive!

Indeed! And any1 who thinks 31 April marks the beginning of ankle sock weather in the UK is slightly crazed. Hv 2
-
confess: when I lived in Lanka, loved seeing the kids in school uniform. Reassuring. (But, hey, in Nuwara Eliya they
-
had sweaters and it was def warmer than the UK in early May).

A couple of the guys in my school had worn skirts to win the girls the right to pants. Granted we never did win the skirts to us
