Some ppl think that if you are concerned abt someone's wellbeing, you either do or should respect their ideas. This doesn't follow.
-
-
-
Then they will translate their concern for, eg marginalised groups into moral cultural relativity & assume that ppl who don't, don't care.
-
Equally, they will assume that ppl who urge kindness to or at least the cessation of a dogpile on someone must share their values or ideas.
-
I really think this underlies a lot of misunderstanding between (universal) liberals & the far-left at the moment.
-
the authoritarian left has lost it's sense. Until it is brought back, the far right will prosper.
-
agree but think media type utilised (Twit &FB) removes the 'considered ideas'. You're left with battle grounds
-
If the left did not demonise
#brexiters , remain would have won. Therefore it is a failed tactic. - 8 more replies

That would be empathy perhaps?
@Atticus_Amber -
Possibly. Some ppl use them interchangeably. I mean 'poor you' vs 'I agree with you.'

I don't think so. Cognitive empathy is a tool. Sympathy for suffering is involuntary.

I'm talking about feeling sorry for people whose ideas I have no support for.

I see feeling sorry for people involuntarily as different to cognitive empathy. I'm thinking in Bloom's terms.
