I don't think being 'anti-feminist' or 'anti-SJW' is as useful as identifying problems & pointing out why they are problems.

Intersectionality attempted to fix a gap in liberalism by foregrounding group identity but lost all sense of shared humanity & individuality
-
This is a nice way of summing it up. I was first drawn to intersectionality because I felt their premises - that ppl of
-
different identity can have vastly different experiences and sometimes liberalism fail to take that into account - is a good
-
observation; unfortunately in practice, such reasonable premise degenerates into utterly ridiculous standards and sometimes
-
outright hypocrisy. And I couldn't stand that any longer. I refused to think that I MUST identify with my ethnicity more than
-
my humanity.
-
And that really is at the core of it. You lose personhood for blackness, Asianness, femaleness, gayness etc. Too high a price.

I and many others find it deeply conservative. Adolph Reed Jr (US black marxist) claims it is a bourgeois class politics.
-
I said the same thing. Its for a privileged class and it results in a form of collectivism which is usually conservative.
-
Yes. My apologies . You did mention it.
-
I tend not to go into class too much. The old-school far-left is still there but I'm more concerned abt the identitarian left.
-
Sure I understand. My concern is that is we also want to counter the far-right we also need to start addressing issues of class.
-
I'll back you. Economics are not my area of expertise or interest but I do agree the left needs to focus on working class again!
-
So we agree! :-)

superb essay.
-
Thank you!
-
no worries - but I do have a question; how did you do the footnotes and hyperlinks? Manually, or is there a tool available?
-
I did it as usual in footnotes on a word doc & sent it to
@areomagazine. Not sure how they transferred them. -
ta; I use zotero for my citations, and at the moment as stuck with inline word-date ones. Ok for an essay, ugly on a web page
-
On my own blogs, I tend to make the referenced stuff clickable. OK, its a bit ugly when some words are bright blue too.
-
...there's no winning, is there?
