Islām isn't violent. Some people are. If you blame an entire religion because of the actions of a few, then the problem is obviously, YOU.

Are there tough verses in the Qurān? Yes, there are. Islām isn't a pacifist religion. It's a religion of justice, but context is essential.

There does seem to be a strong correlation between Islam and extreme social conservatism tho many wonderful liberal Muslims exist
