Hmm. Although I tend to take a centist, moderate position on nearly everything, I find I am quite absolutist about various freedoms.

Freedom of speech is the freedom to express ideas. Doesn't include inducing stampedes, libel, breaking confidentiality etc.

Well no. The principle of free speech is well understood to be the right to express all ideas.

Free speech is not anything that can be said. If I say 'Give me £1000 or I'll tell everyone your secrets' that's a crime.

I cld tell the papers who the father of a celebrity's baby is coz I had access to her maternity records. That'd be a crime
