On a simple level, this is the usual difference between defending peoples right to say things and liking/supporting what they say.

On another, the core of the principle of free speech is the right to freely express *ideas* rather than verbally abuse *people.*

And on a third, both free expression of ideas and conveying them in a civil & reasonable manner are important to actually achieving anything
