Am actually sitting on my hands trying not to interfere with someone else's discussion which they're handling superbly. I shld stop watching

Intersectionality is just the view that different forms of discrimination can affect a single individual simultaneously & can't be separated
-
This is something that most ppl wld agree with in the same way they agree with core definition of feminism - equality for women.
-
However, in practice, this leads to all sorts of other ideas - simplistic ideas of privilege, reversal of hierarchies, identity as paramount
-
Restricting PoC & women & LGBTs to certain categories, claiming intersectional values for them all, vilifying them if they don't hold them.
-
Reading everything for offence, demanding everyone focus on race, gender & sexuality rather than individuality or shared human experience.
-
We can agree that women shld have equality but decline feminism as a much broader phenomenon including ideology & practices we do not share.
-
Similarly, we can agree an individual can be subjected to several forms of discrimination but decline the added baggage of intersectionality
-
Ppl can have consistent principles which oppose discrimination & advocate gender/racial/LGBT equality w/out taking on either of those.
-
I'd call this 'liberal' but know pp who share my values but reject 'liberal' seeing it as associated w the left whilst they are conservative
-
I'd call it humanist but know ppl who share these values but reject 'humanist' seeing it as atheist whilst they are religious.
-
I could argue with these ppl & insist they are liberals & humanists but this is much less important than promoting the values together.
-
So pls do not tell anyone they are feminist or intersectional if they tell you they're not. They know what they're declining & why.

the whole issue is just misidentification of these prejudices where they don't exist, and the Marxist approach to fixing them
-
I'm about to write something about this. I tend to blame postmodernism more than Marxism but it incorporates that.

Don't most people identifying as "intersectional" support one of more of those types of discrimination in certain circumstances?
-
That is one of the problems associated with it, yes.
