I can't help but feel sorry for Melania Trump. She just looks so awkward, anxious & overwhelmed at every public event & I can sympathise.

I cld never have married someone in any kind of public role which required me to have social skills, fashion sense, diplomacy on his behalf

My dad had a job which required socialising & he didn't have them either. Fortunately, my mother was able to supply enough for both.

My best friend just posted this on my Facebook as symbolic of me. Frankly, if I manage to go out with matching shoes, I consider it a win.pic.twitter.com/8z4UCju939

I've said this before but I think the 'First Lady' role is outdated & bizarre. Which is odd coming from someone with a monarchy, I know.

And what I used to like abt Charles was that he managed to spend most of his time out of the spotlight pursuing his own eccentric interests

Had very unpopular position of feeling sorry for him being married to Diana when you were supposed to pity her for being stuck with him.

But, I digress.Idea that president will have a spouse who is also free, capable & willing to give up their life for a public role is odd

If the ideal president has a husband or wife w/ successful career of their own & no interest in a public political role, is this a problem?

Because it is essentially a supportive, social, appearances role. Must wannabe presidents avoid marrying introverts with own interests?

Hilary Clinton co-chaired the (albeit doomed) Healthcare reform commission & Michelle Obama was also active policy wise

Michelle Obama had her own life, she was a successful hospital administrator. Now she's talked of as a potential POTUS.

It's a good question - maybe someday we will see a partner of the POTUS who takes that position.

Power of that scale tends to be hard to turn down. Either that or its a 'duty' that one is unlikely to shirk.

Probably an issue for highest ranking politicians. Agree, if conflicts &/ or security are OK, should be no barriers. UK easier.
