So they are having cognitive dissonance if they object to being called racist whilst advocating racism?
Possibly. The question is, do they dislike being a racist or are they acting on self-preservation.
That was what I was asking. Ppl who claim to feel hurt by being labelled with a prejudice they're arguing is a good thing.
it is, they also may be right. I'm assuming that what the person said was actualy really racist & not just perceived as such.
Yes, obv. Its hypothetical. Assume someone is espousing racist views as good things & also objecting to being called racist.
The example I gave was being explicitly saying homosexuality was disgusting & then being offended by being called homophobic
Rather than saying 'Yes, I do have a prejudice against & aversion to homosexuality & think everyone should.'
did this person make specific excuses as to why he was hurt? My First reaction is indeed cognitive dissonance.
This person could say: I find it disgusting, but I'm not actively hurting them. Therefore I'm not homophobic. This is cog. dis.
We're all sinners. I'm doing it out of love. I'm a good person. I still have a prejudice & aversion but unfair to name it.
