I don't know that there is one right way. But "civility" is quite often a guise for "don't point out the flaws in my argument."

In my experience, civility is a word often used to insist that oppressive ideologies deserve equal footing.

but there is no civility to be found in defending systems which oppress others. "Polite" oppression is still oppressive.
