And they're there. Ppl track the rise & fall of it. What was & wasn't postmodern.
It's recognised by being platformed & talked about. Bought & sold. Always the case.

I don't like postmodern art much. I like renaissance symbolism coz I can read it. Very rich.
-
It has 'right answers.' Postmodern art has questions. You may or may not think them worth asking
-
It's not quite true to say I don't like postmodern art.I like thinking abt what it cld be saying
-
And the fact that you can pretty much decide this for yourself. I don't enjoy it aesthetically.

Yes because influential people have decided that it's art. If they all suffered from amnesia->
-
and found this bed in someone's garage, it's just be a bed with garbage on it.
-
My point: a piece of art should be able to exist a such independently of context.
-
or, in other words, it should not be dependent on a meta-narrative (a PoMo favourite).
-
But they'd say that the meta-narrative is your one abt what does & doesn't constitute art.
-
But we can say 'this shld not exist'. It still did. It was still meaningful to people.

Okay. Is that the definition of art? I suggest calling a pig a cow, does not make it so.
-
No. We don't define livestock this way. We do define art by what humans are making, liking etc
-
You can say you don't like it. Meanwhile, a whole industry & intellectual movement going on.
-
I realize this. I'm not denying it is happening. I'm saying I disagree with it.
