I'm probably a horrible person, but I'm not convinced it's a good idea for people to talk about mental health more. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/01/17/prince-william-calls-end-keep-quiet-carry-attitude-mental-health/ …

That's bad. I agree, but how do we look at people who fake cancer? Or any other physical illness?
-
I don't think they always 'fake.' I think they're encouraged to see normal bad feelings as MI
-
Coz that's the difference between cancer & neurosis. Becomes illness when u can't cope
-
eg Lots ppl say they have OCD. I have had it & suspect few of them do. Normal anxiety reaction
-
Ok. I used this word, because without a diagnosis we can't state it as fact. I understand people
-
misuse the word or condition. This would qualify as self-diagnosis, I presumed. Maybe this not
-
their intention. They might truly believe this. That would be a problem, I agree.
-
It's what I see a lot of in universities. Students believing themselves to be suffering a MI.

I find the key to whether someone addressing mental health is a productive way is if the aim is to get better
-
Positive talk of treatments & strategies for coping is helpful. Outpourings of woe & offence taking, no.

Haha, if you two only knew how much I have wallowed.

It can be hard not to - often a symptom - but we shouldn't valorise wallowing & encourage histrionics!
