For those confused about hypocrisy: It also doesn't include ppl taking a position, realising it was wrong & changing it. This is honesty.

there is a certain stigma surrounding hypocrites, perhaps part of a western honor culture?

I know that in my own family being a hypocrite was equated with dishonesty/untrustworthiness

Yeah, I agree. I think it's worth while to push against this tendency too. Hypocrisy should be seen as temporary imo.

I think we need to distinguish between hypocrisy and bias. One is intentional. The other unconscious.

If I am critical of someone else's rudeness but am often rude myself, I may lack self-awareness or not have qualified
