This is the problem. Ppl voting on big, noble themes like sovereignty & not understanding all the EU does.

this is a major problem with populist politics in general. The "little picture" (details) offen matters more than "big picture".

I think we agree tho I was seeing the details as the complex facts of the matter neglected for unrealistic ideal of sovereignty

@DuncanCastles I likely have an incomplete view from over here, but that doesn't sound like the Brexiters I know.

Well, its a parody. Ask them how they went abt researching the economy & see if they say 'but sovereignty!'

What I’ve heard are variations on ‘we expect an economic hit, maybe a social one as well, worth the risks anyway’.>

The main factors I hear are, yes, sovereignty, but more immigration, and the EU's opaque unresponsive bureaucracy.

The issues they have with the EU seem genuine, and there doesn’t seem to be a path to addressing them from within.

One can certainly argue that Leaving is worse, but pretending the Leavers are just pointless idiots isn’t that.

I'm not arguing that leavers are pointless idiots. I'm arguing that grand themes with understanding or plans no good

A lot of the remain motivation was equally tribal & one grand theme of globalism & because-im-not-a-racist.

BTW, I’m with you entirely on the ‘expert’ thing. Anti-intellectualism exists, but isn’t much help here.
