Not sure I agree speech isn't harmful but it's rare to see harm actually being mentioned during a discussion on free speech.

Hmm. Not sure abt that. I see ppl claiming words are literally violence, make ppl unsafe etc

Generally, if someone is planning to say something you don't like somewhere you don't have to be, deal with it.

That way you can avoid direct harm, but speech can lead to harm indirectly. Incitement to violence for example. Or propaganda.

Incitement to violence is already illegal and not covered under freedom of speech. Propaganda is subjective.

And some would argue that's an infringement of freedom of speech rights. I don't btw. Also a problem of explicit vs implicit.

It's not, though. The concept of freedom of speech is about being able to freely express any ideas. Only that.

Doesn't give people the right to break confidentiality, slander people, plot crimes, mislead for profit, start a stampede.

Propoganda such as "the Jews are to blame for everything" can certainly lead to harm and violation of other's rights.

It can. But its better to argue with this than ban ppl from saying it. The same argument used to silence critics of religion.

Not sure it's so straightforward considering the ongoing debate. I think you and I are mostly on the same page. Many aren't.

I'm thinking also of Mill's harm principle. Even he seemed confused, which makes me feel better about my own confusion.

I certainly don't advocate banning in most instances, but what constitutes harm & should be banned is also open for debate.

Unless ppl decide it isn't because that would be harmful. I'm always for more freedom on principle but recognise consequences
