Believers take all good & meaningful things in life & ascribe them to 'God' so they can't see how life w/out 'God' can be good or meaningful
-
This is the thesis of Everybody is Wrong about God, btw, & Eve demonstrated it beautifully today. You should definitely read it.

I remember when I was trying to give up smoking and I thought life would feel meaningless without cigarettes.
-
So I wonder if something similar is going on in religious people's minds.
-
This is where Everybody is Wrong about God is good. Shows what 'God' means psychologically. Morality, community, purpose etc
-
So when you say you don't believe in God, this is understood as having no morality, loyalty, purpose etc.
-
Ive seen this since reading it in what religious ppl say to me. We're not talking about the same thing when we say 'God'
-
OK, but I never thought that smoking was a morally virtuous act. And still I convinced myself life would seem empty w-out cigs.
-
I think that's a different bit if psychology tho. More applicable to ppl who have lost faith & need to fill the void.
