I had the job of editing newsletter for US secular humanist society before. Their ethics code sounded like religion w/o god.
We seem to have drifted. I was mostly interested in how you defined 'religious.'

Religious is a moral ideology, shared ethical paradigm. It includes Chinese traditional cultural values/customs.
-
OK, well if its any moral ideology, I'm not anti-religious. I just disbelieve in gods.
-
Chinese gods are treated more like Santa, not taken seriously, playful mythology.
-
Confucianism is a system of rational ethical rules to best govern the kingdom, to govern the patriarchy.
-
Of course, it was oppressive to women in the family, especially to the daughter-in-law and maids.
-
Some Chinese think only Christianity and Buddhism and Taoism are religions. Confucianism is embedded.
-
Christianity is often antithetical to traditional Chinese culture and other beliefs, can be very snobbish.
-
Problem with Christianity is monotheism, belief in an all powerful jealous God. God concept is thus rejected.
