I feel bad now coz someone whose work I edited just emailed me to thank me. Maybe she fantasised abt murdering me privately though.

In a word, no. I hate it!
-
My account is unsafe for you tonight!
-
As an editor, I find about 70% of writers start defensive and touchy, but same prop. end up pathetically grateful!

Coders do peer review, where a colleague comes in and tries to understand what you've done, you have to see it as help, not a critique.
-
But parts of it mean something different now. Things that aren't true. 'Required not to' =/= 'not required to.'
-
But I admit my response to constructive criticism of my academic work gets to genuine appreciation via homicidal rage.
-
Fortunately, it comes by email so I have time to get there before I need to respond with thanks.

I watched a talk with GRRM and Robin Hobb, they discussed how difficult this can be—like letting go of your baby the first time.
-
Just like that! I get criticism on academic essays obv but this person mutilated my baby!(OK, cut 20 words, changed abt 30 more)
-
I hear it gets easier. Deep breaths

2 decades ago a friend I strongly admired told me I write in passive voice and I should stop. I do sure miss her.

:-o XD

(I was going to be serious and say the criticism is not forgotten, but meh, just bury the truth deep in this reply. :D)
