It depends who's making it. I spend a lot of time talking to religious conservatives who'd limit women to the home.
There are plenty of those. I don't hear them say that in defence of equal rights though.
IMO, when used to justify equal rights the "wifes and mothers" statement is usually in good faith.
When used to justify women staying at home, it's different.
They're both in good faith. Point is whether or not its used to justify restricting anyone or denying opportunities.
My point is that I would use it to justify equal rights. There are better statements that can be made for that.
But I'm not particularly concerned, given that the intentions are good.
