Its the fact that the 'housewives of ISIS' look & sound like normal English Muslims that is found so offensive.https://twitter.com/HPluckrose/status/818769043373117441 …

One woman actually told me I've been fooled by MSM if I think ISIS women wear hijabs. They're for real Muslims.

In same way ppl say ' but he seemed so normal' abt serial killers & unsettled by pics of Hitler having lunch. Want them obviously monstrous.

Otherwise we have to accept our own species, society, communities, ideologies produced these ppl & its too close to home.

Particular cognitive dissonance when horrific brutality is done in the name of a religion/ideology you believe is perfectly morally good.

Why its best to accept there are no perfect systems of values. Just have to get as close as we can & accept that ppl will always fuck it up.

I'm not sure that shutting down any attempts to talk abt Islamism is helping social cohesion at all.

I think it just increases distrust & resentment. Strong argument that Clinton lost favour for not naming the problem.

Both silencing of criticism of Islamism & Trump-like bigotry exacerbate. We need to treat it openly like everything else.

For UK Muslims it may raise problems (increasing hatred) as a result of an act of brutality in UK in support of Daesh

Arguably. However, other people have pointed out that it humanises (and normalises?) ISIS members

More importantly, it makes them ridiculous which takes some of the 'romance' out of running away to be a Jihadi bride.

Agree there's a small risk of romanticising but ridiculing is effective, as is stopping their Caliphate ambitions
