My suggestion would be to presume the best motives (i.e. sincere religious practice) and to engage accordingly.

My point is that we owe our fellow members of society reasoned arguments for them to change their habits.

Rather than inveighing against the stink of meat, a vegetarian would be better arguing on the basis of land use.

I don't see an either/or situation. Ppl can make reasoned arguments whilst not hiding distaste for meat.

They can, but the distaste aspect is counterproductive. Intellectual laziness/decadence doesn't often persuade.
