They probably can't help it either when it comes down to it, no.
I can feel sympathetic towards them if its caused by self-doubt. I cannot if its caused by feelings of superiority.

Yeah, and it's required less and less introspection as I've internalized the role of luck in who we are over the years.

I said earlier if someone literally is so egocentric they can't care about others, friendship probably isn't possible, but...
