Someone on here asked me if I'm a feminist. Maybe the fact that I'm a female theoretical astrophysicist could be one clue.

.
@IonaItalia@AstroKatie And science is masculinist coz it 'privileges' testing & evidence & reasoning. Women have own 'ways of knowing' -
You'll find ppl who've gone mad on the lunatic fringes of ANY mass movement.
-
And can cherry pick examples of their craziness till the cows come home. British ppl r insane: look!
-
Women are insane: look! Men are insane: look! Democrat voters are insane: look! Every grp of ppl contains
-
a subgroup who r insane.
-
That is not the point at all.
-
That really does seem to be the point you're making here. Some ppl who call themselves feminists r silly.

Yes, indeed, there are lunatics out there. Though that seems nothing 2 do w women's issues. More general SJW?

.
@IonaItalia@AstroKatie Academic feminism.Module on postmodernism centring Lyotard's claim that science has been debunked compulsory for me -
.
@IonaItalia@AstroKatie This is why I prefer to step away from 'theory' & the movement now & focus on the issues impeding gender equality. -
I still support & work with ppl who ID as feminist & simply mean 'gender equality' by it but term does have baggage
-
I think that's kind of inevitable when political movements go mainstream, but I'm fine w ppl IDing however they wish
-
Labels are pretty ridiculous things to go to war over. I can't think of a single claim I could make ->
-
about feminism as an ideology that wouldn't be greatly improved by specifying WHO, exactly. The NOW? ->
-
Gloria Steinem? Tumblr? A specific professor, or school, or faculty? etc.
