Can't help but notice that men who use the term 'beta-male' unironically abt other men are very seldom the kind of men women find attractive

Usually they regard themselves as 'alpha' and 'alpha' means 'boorish, sexist, arrogant & ignorant on social issues they won't shut up about.

is it not true arrogant jerks have a certain amount of success?

I suspect this is diminished if they also describe themselves as alpha males seriously. Protesting far too much.

Historically the need to avoid single motherhood (which was a big social issue) lead to development of rigid sexual roles.

Due to biology AND culture women tend to pick men who look healthier and more able to provide economical support.

Men also tend to pick women who look healthier. Again, "tend to", it's not a rigid rule.

Luckily, women find those kinds of men repellent. [looks to camera]

The "alpha" and "beta" thing is also biologically unsound. Humans tend to be (emphasis on "tend") monogamous.

Of course physical fitness/facial symmetry plays a role in attraction, but the "20% of men get 80% of women" thing is BS.

Women tend to be (emphasis, again, on "tend") more monogamous than men because of pregnancy risk.

Confidence plays a role (nonconfident people approach less and deal badly with rejection). But it's no evidence of beta/alpha.

There's no evidence of a single "alpha" in a group surrounded by "betas" like in wolves or lions.
