I sometimes wonder if pointing out that nagging is basically female mansplaining will actually work

I have an essay in progress about this! Historically women's speech has been associated with scolding & wittering pointlessly.

how much of this do you think is due to women having a naturally higher tone of voice?

Not much, tbh. More down to a genuine difference in communication styles & a desire to read one uncharitably.

I've definitely had to defuse situations where my wife had mistook my tone for being hostile towards her.

Yes. Helps to begin with 'I think' or 'I feel' or end with 'don't you think?' Still say exactly the same thing.

Whereas if I say to a man 'I think' he often thinks that I am unsure rather than that this is what I think.

yeah, I wonder how we alter a male's perception of "I think" when spoken by a woman as opposed to by a man.

Or even if men use that as much. I read that men nod to express agreement whilst women nod to say 'Go on. Listening'

yeah, if I nod it's usually in agreement. I'll usually just say I'm listening if I want someone to continue.
