Not so interesting looking at what Brits say abt Americans. Mostly, it seems we can't get past what they're calling 'tea' & 'football.'

Iced tea? The ball with the 2 pointy ends? I confess, I can't figure out the "tea" at a particular time of day thing :)

You might find it funny that I have a "Mister Coffee" machine that makes tea, too. Going to make some green tea now :))

I'll have my tea with cookies, tho. And it's dinnertime here, considering that lasts all evening :)))

My friends used to say I was really British. I told them that was because they didn't know any actual British people.

So I introduced them to a few British friends. They talked about it and decided I must really be Canadian. Problem solved.

Anyway, the point is that I can often translate between the two groups when needed. However sometimes things still catch me up.

The most recent one was 'bagsy', a way of claiming something. The closest Amercianism is 'dibs'.

Yes. That's an odd one. Also 'chuffed' seems not to translate well!

Yes. That sentiment over here tends to not include the person, just a comment directly on the event/issue instead. >

"'X' happened , I was well chuffed" translates more like "'X' happened, it was cool."

Re "football" I jokingly refer to ours as "handegg" (to outside NA) since we use our hands and it is more eggshaped. :D
